![]() ICE is also usually present on connections protecting data nodes of financial nodes, not just between connection nodes. Tunnel does combo well of Sniffer because you can figure out where the ICE is but sometimes an educated guess is all you need. Tunnel shines on small networks against really big, scary ICE. That gets even worse when other programs make you move additional times for free of if there's another hacker on the network hunting you down: tunnel is way over there nullifying a connection that's of no use to me. So unless you stay away from ICE for 4 turns, you need another breaker in your arsenal to help you deal with a second piece of ICE while tunnel is still active. That's rough! But there's a bigger drawback: you can't remove tunnel. That means no stealth program for 4 turns which means you're looking at +4 trace at the least. ![]() ![]() I think in the demo it still lasts for 4 turns (I believe we actually buffed tunnel to 3). If you use cloak + sniffer+ breaker and it takes you 3 actions it's statistically better because cloak has 3 chances to deny the trace which means you'll often end up with +2 trace anyway with a chance of +1 or even + 0. So if just sniffer + breaker takes 2 actions, it's always +2 trace. Just sniffer and a breaker is less actions but also garantueed trace. Using Cloak + Breaker + sniffer does indeed take 3 actions roughly for a binary wall, but there's plenty of ICE out there where that is either less or the math is even worse. Oe! I like this discussion! Allow me to weigh in! Breaking the ICE might be more worthwhile in that case, but none of the demo levels had that. The only reason I could see to not just use tunnels to bypass everything would be if levels got complex enough that you're constantly having to backtrack multiple times through the same nodes. Will the full version levels have random ICE placement? But it's always in the same spot so once you know it's there you can just redo the level and bypass it all with tunnel. One drawback to the tunnel is it kind of relies on you knowing ahead of time where the ICE is. ![]() You're in and out way faster than the sniffer + breaker option which more than makes up for not running a cloak for 2 turns. It only costs 1 action and 3 slices for a few turns, almost the same as a sniffer. No waiting for dagger to break down ICE or spending an additional action and slices on a sniffer. Option 2- Run sniffer + breaker 100% and break through in half the time (2 actions)īoth options are the same in terms of getting through ICE in a certain trace time. Option 1- Run sniffer + cloak 50% + breaker (3 actions) Slices that could be devoted to the breaker to get through the ICE faster, spending less turns having to rely on cloak. While the demo gives a good first indication of what to expect, it's not exactly representative of the full game on all fronts, there's a massive amount of content, that will encourage you to explore different strategies, and more than 40 unique programs to play around with.Ĭloak still eats up slices though. Its not the easies program to use in terms of resource management and not being able to use a Stealth program while tunnel is active can be a handicap too. Being a fan of the tunnel program myself, I know it's strengths, but it can be challenging to use efficiently in bigger networks with more ice, especially if you're being hunted by a system operator. However the game is designed in a way that no program is ever really superior, every program should be useable from start to finish, but there's no ultimate solution to everything either. The game allows for multiple strategies and deck constructions that go beyond the classic cloak, sniffer, dagger setup. It's a strategy I personally like to use a lot too! Excellent question and a smart program to use in the demo.
